I took a high school level class and/or completed Wa. St History in middle school in another district. Can I get that put on my transcript?
Yes you can!
You will just need to contact the middle school you attended and have them send an official transcript to the JHS Counseling Office with note of what class/grade/requirement you are adding to your JHS transcript.
Qualifying Classes:
Alg 1 or above
Leveled World Language classes (ex: Spanish 1)
Washington State (or other state) History
Where can I find an Appendix and How do I submit it?
You can find all the LWSD appendices on the LWSD Forms Library Page.
All appendices can be found under the High School Credit option.
Students need to print off the forms, fill them out and submit them to the MAIN OFFICE.
Students can check their Portfolio Tab in Student Access to see if it has been uploaded. Once it is there, that means it has been approved.
Please note students must submit the appendices prior to starting on any assignments.

- Can JHS advise me on self studying for AP tests?

What does it mean to be a good student?
A good student pursues scholarship, actively participates in class, and maintains a positive, professional relationship with instructors and peers. Good students have a passion for learning that drives them to fully understand class material rather than just worry about what grades they receive in the course.
It’s important to remember that grades are not the only measure of success. We encourage students to focus on learning and understanding the concepts rather than just getting good grades. This will help them develop a deeper understanding of the subject.

Scheduling
Scheduling
- Can I have a Schedule Change?
- Counselors are in charge of scheduling
- My Student didn't get any of the electives they requested
Can I have a Schedule Change?
No.
We only adhere to limited reasons for Schedule CORRECTIONS.
They are the following:
Student has a hole or "See Counselor" in their schedule
Student received a teacher change for a yearlong class
Student is in a class they have already taken and received credit in. This does not apply to Performing Arts and PE classes.
Student has not met the prerequisite for a class
We would like to emphasize that the schedule correction policy applies equally to all students, including those in the Cambridge program.
Counselors are in charge of scheduling
No!
Despite counselors being involved in On Time Graduation their roles as a counselors is not to grant requests but to support students’ emotional and academic wellbeing (on top of emotional emergencies including thoughts of self harm and suicide) while helping them navigate challenges in alignment with LWSD SEL goals, such as developing a growth mindset and learning to work through less favorable circumstances.

Graduation Requirements
- What are the graduation requirements for LWSD Students?
- What is the 24 credit requirement breakdown?
- What is a Grad Pathway?
What are the graduation requirements for LWSD Students?
What is the 24 credit requirement breakdown?
Subject Requirement | Credit Requirement |
English/Language Arts | 4.0 |
Social Studies | 3.0 |
Math | 3.0 |
Science | 3.0^ |
World Language | 2.0* |
Health | .5 |
P.E. | 1.5 |
Art* | 2.0 |
CTE | 1.0 |
Electives | 4.0 |
* Personal Pathway Requirement can be used for 2.0 of World Language and/or 1.0 Art
^ 2.0 lab science, 1.0 non-lab science
An elective is any class taken where the subject area has already been completed.
Example: Your student has already completed 2 years of a World Language, and opts for a 3rd. That 3rd credit would be an elective.
What is a Grad Pathway?
Grad pathways are an additional requirement that students must complete. Below are the options available:
- State Assessment: Meet or exceed the graduation scores in the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics or in WA-AIM (Washington Access to Instruction & Measurement).
- CTE Sequence: Complete a sequence of Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses.*CTE Sequence: Complete a sequence of Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses.* See CTE Sequence breakdown for JHS
- Dual Credit: Earn at least one high school credit in ELA and at least one high school credit in math in dual credit courses (Running Start, College in the High School, and/or Career and Technical Education dual credit courses).
- AP/Cambridge: For both ELA and math, earn a 3 or higher on certain Advanced Placement (AP) or an E on certain Cambridge International exams, or pass the course with at least a C+.
- SAT/ACT: Meet or exceed the graduation scores set by SBE in the math and ELA portions of the SAT or ACT.
- Transition Course: Pass a transition course in ELA and math (for example, a Bridge to College course) which allows a student to place directly into a credit-bearing college level course.
- Combination: Meet any combination of at least one ELA and one math option of those options listed in 1-5.
- Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB): Meet standard on the ASVAB by scoring at least the minimum established by the military for eligibility to serve in a branch of the armed services.
*Note: Students who pursue these pathways (ASVAB or CTE) do not need to meet English and math requirements separately. English and math content are embedded in both pathways – and a student who meets either the ASVAB standard or the CTE pathway requirements has met the graduation pathway requirement.
