Ella Maeda, Principal

Ella Maeda was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and then grew up for most of her life in both Pennsylvania and Hawai'i. She attended Pennsylvania State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in secondary English education. She also holds an M.Ed. from George Mason University in Educational Leadership and Administration, as well as a M.S. In Special Education. Previously she has been a high school teacher, elementary and high school principal in Hawai'i, state-level curriculum specialist, and district-level school improvement specialist. However, her greatest achievement is being the mom of twins, who will be Class of 2031 Juanita Ravens!
Terry Jess, Associate Principal

Terry Jess grew up in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, eventually attending the University of Idaho, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Social Studies Education and then a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction with a focus on Multicultural Education. He began his career teaching History and Ethnic Studies for 9 years at Bellevue High School, before moving into an Instructional Coach role at Interlake High School in the Bellevue School District. Terry then enrolled in the University of Washington Danforth Principal Program where he completed a second Masters of Education in Educational Leadership, researching the role of white administrators in the retention of BIPOC educators.
Terry is thrilled to continue serving Juanita High School as an Associate Principal for his fourth year. He believes that the education each and every student deserves can only be attained through students, educators, families, and community organizations working together to co-construct racially and socially just schools that honor, celebrate, and grow the humanity and dignity of each member of our community. He has been immensely proud of the amazing work at JHS in creating the Juanita Flex Academy, Family Connection Center, as well as supporting many great teams (Equity, AVID, BIPOC and LGBTQ Staff Affinity), and initiatives (affinity-based homerooms, new academic interventions, and increasing student voice and agency.) Terry was honored to recently be named the 2025 AWSP AP of the Year for the State of Washington.
Outside of school, Terry enjoys spending time with his wife Holly, who was his high school sweetheart and active best friend, his sons, Taylor and Matthew, who are the coolest people he knows, and his dog, Izzy. Terry is a collector of vinyl records, sports memorabilia, Funko Pops and Nike Sneakers, (see if you can spot him wearing the same pair in a year). He is an avid reader and has many books available for students to borrow in his office, as well as snacks… always snacks.
Robbie Furtado, Associate Principal (Students: Last Name H-O)

Robbie Furtado was raised in Seattle, WA, and attended the University of Washington, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. Then he began his educational career teaching in Japan before moving to California to obtain his teaching credential at San Francisco State University. After a year of teaching in California, Robbie returned to Washington State, where he taught for six more years. During this time, he earned a Master's in Educational Administration from Western Washington University and, in 2022, became an Associate Principal at Juanita High School.
Outside of work, Robbie enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife Rebecca, son Matias, daughter Rosaleen, and dog Porthos. They love going on walks together exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest and playing hockey at the local ice rink.
Lance Espejo, Associate Principal (Students: Last Name P-Z)

Lance Espejo was born and raised in Corona, CA. Lance currently holds a Bachelor's Degree in English and a teaching credential in Special Education. Lance also has a Master's Degree specializing in Special Education and a second Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. Lance began his career in education first as a coach of football, wrestling, and golf. While coaching Lance worked as a classified staff member as a custodian, para-educator, and substitute teacher. Lance then transitioned into teaching Mild/Moderate Special Education for five years and ASB and Activities Director for three years at the High School level. Lance then transitioned to being an Administrator for the past three school years.
Outside of school, Lance enjoys golfing, traveling, riding motorcycles, walking his dogs and spending time with his wife.
Lance is extremely excited to join the Juanita Raven community as a first year Associate Principal with LWSD. Lance is extremely honored to be working with such an amazing staff and administrative team.
Brenda Conrad (Students: Last Name A-G)

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I introduce myself as the incoming Substitute Associate Principal at Juanita High School. My name is Brenda Conrad, and I am truly honored to join this vibrant and dedicated school community.
I bring with me over 30 years of experience in education, including 6 years as an Assistant Principal at Woodinville High School and 3 years as Principal at Glacier Peak High School. Before that, I spent 20 wonderful years teaching Family and Consumer Sciences & Health at Bellevue High School, where I also served as the Activities Coordinator & Leadership teacher for a decade. I began my career at Mark Morris High School in Longview, WA, and throughout all of these roles, I’ve remained passionate about supporting students, building meaningful relationships, and fostering inclusive school communities.
I earned my Master’s in Education with a focus on technology and completed my administrative credentials through the Danforth Program at the University of Washington—preparing me to lead with equity, empathy, and a deep commitment to student success.
As a proud Juanita High School alumna, returning to JHS feels like coming home. I grew up in Kirkland, and my two sisters also graduated from Juanita. I now live in Mill Creek with my sweet cockapoo puppy, Lily. While I don’t have children of my own, I consider it a privilege to support and care for the more than 1,700 students who walk through our doors each day. That’s the heart of why I do this work—it brings me joy.
One of my top priorities is to support a school culture where every student and staff member feels a strong sense of belonging. I look forward to listening, learning, and working in partnership with all of you to uphold Juanita’s rich traditions, spirited culture, and strong community values.
