Kelly Clapp, Principal
Kelly Clapp grew up in Snohomish, WA and then attended Western Washington University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and majoring in English. She began teaching English and language arts right after graduation and was also a high school track and cross country coach. Along the way, Kelly earned her Master’s Degree from Lesley University and her Principal’s Certification through Western.She began her administrative career at Everett High School and then served as the principal of Redmond Middle School in the Lake Washington School District for the last seven years.
Kelly is thrilled to be the new principal of Juanita High School. She believes that JHS should be a place where respect and inclusion provide the foundation for all aspects of the school community so that each student feels safe, supported and hopeful about their futures.
Terry Jess, Associate Principal (Students: Last Name A-G)
Terry Jess grew up in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, eventually attending the University of Idaho, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Social Studies Education and then a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction with a focus on Multicultural Education. He began his career teaching History and Ethnic Studies for 9 years at Bellevue High School, before moving into an Instructional Coach role at Interlake High School in the Bellevue School District. Terry then enrolled in the University of Washington Danforth Principal Program where he completed a second Masters of Education in Educational Leadership, researching the role of white administrators in the retention of BIPOC educators.
Terry is thrilled to join Juanita High School as an Associate Principal. He believes that the education each and every student deserves can only be attained through students, educators, families, and community organizations working together to co-construct racially and socially just schools that honor, celebrate, and grow the humanity and dignity of each member of our community.
Outside of school, Terry he enjoys spending time with his wife Holly, his sons, Taylor and Matthew, and his four dogs, Jax, Toby, Izzy, and Abby. He is an avid reader and has many books available for students to borrow in his office, as well as snacks… always snacks.
Robbie Furtado, Associate Principal (Students: Last Name H-O)
Robbie Furtado grew up in Seattle, WA, and then attended the University of Washington, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He began his career in education teaching in Japan and eventually moved to California where he obtained his teaching credential at San Francisco State University. After a year of teaching in Albany, CA, he moved back up to Washington State and taught for 6 more years, including 3 years at Redmond Middle School. After graduating from Western Washington University with his master’s in Educational Administration in 2021, he also did his admin internship at Redmond Middle School.
Robbie is excited to join Juanita High School as an Associate Principal. He believes that education starts with relationships and with the trust created through our relationships we can help our community thrive.
When Robbie is not at work, he enjoys going on walks with his wife Rebecca, his son Matias, and his dog Porthos, or playing hockey at the local ice rink. He loves reading a good book on rainy days or getting outside to enjoy the great Pacific Northwest.
Ryan Malone, Associate Principal (Students: Last Name P-Z)
Originally from Spokane, WA, Ryan Malone is proud to be a new member of the Raven community. Ryan brings eight years of high school administrative experience to Juanita, most recently serving as the assistant principal at Sultan High School in Sultan, WA. Before moving into an administrative role, Ryan taught language arts in public high schools for nearly a decade. He has taught a wide range of language arts courses including creative writing, American literature, British literature, oral communications, and Advanced Placement.
Ryan earned his Educational Specialist degree and Washington State Principal Certificate from Seattle University. Additionally, he holds a Master of Education degree from Eastern Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in comparative literature from the University of Washington.
Ryan is honored and excited to serve as an associate principal at Juanita High School. He aims to provide programs and support for students so that they experience meaningful, personal growth on a daily basis.
