Counselors are here to monitor academic progress towards On Time Graduation.

It is actually students that are in charge of their schedules. By making good and educated choices when registering for classes.

Please note that courses selected during registration are requests and can't always be guaranteed 

Despite counselors being involved in On Time Graduation their roles as a counselors is not to grant requests but to support students’ emotional and academic wellbeing (on top of emotional emergencies including thoughts of self harm and suicide) while helping them navigate challenges in alignment with LWSD SEL goals, such as developing a growth mindset and learning to work through less favorable circumstances.

NO!

But there are Schedule Corrections if there is an On Time Graduation concern.

These concerns include:

Holes in schedules (empty periods)

Teacher changes at the semester for yearlong classes

Needing to add a missing on time graduation requirement.

These concerns DO NOT include:

Wanting to change teachers

Dropping a yearlong class

Wanting to change where classes fall in one's schedule

Swapping out a certain class for another

LWSD bases what is offered at schools based on what is requested in the Spring, meaning if a student didn't request that exact class there wouldn't be a spot made for them.  Please note course requests are NOT guaranteed.

We would like to emphasize that the schedule correction policy applies equally to all students, including those in the Cambridge program.

It is a common occurrence for yearlong classes to switch periods at the semester.  This can be for various reasons that could include:

Accommodate a semester long elective/class

Help balance out class sizes

The important thing to keep in mind is: As long as that yearlong class has the same teacher both semesters, your schedule is ok!

PPR = Personalized Pathway Requirements

Related courses that lead to a specific post-high school career or educational outcome chosen by the student based on the student's interests and High School and Beyond Plan, that may include Career & Technical Education, and are intended to provide a focus for the student's learning.

A plan that specifies how you will meet your graduation requirements and what you will do following high school.

There is a component of the HSBP that needs to be completed every year, from 8th – 12th grades.

We use Xello as a platform for students to create and revise their High School & Beyond Plans.  You have access to Xello right now!

There are many options available.  Students must meet at least one of these pathway options to graduate:

Pass the SBA in ELA & Math

Earn Dual Credit (example: passing college-level math and English classes in Running Start)

Earn a specific score on the SAT/ACT or on AP or Cambridge exams.

Meet standard on the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)

 Complete a Career & Tech Education sequence of courses.

Absolutely!

We encourage students to challenge themselves and sometimes students don't earn the grade they wanted because it was a little too challenging.  That is ok!  You can always sign up for the class again next year and your grade can be replaced.
