Running Start

👀 what is Running Start?

Running Start = a college program (not run by your high school)

You take classes through a college (like Cascadia or Bellevue College)

You earn both high school + college credit

You are responsible for applying, registering, and communicating with the college

You can start the process the spring of your Sophomore or Junior year if you are interested.

👉 Important:
JHS does not manage the program, we help with forms and graduation requirements, but the college runs everything else.

Running Start Presentation

Do these steps in order

If you follow this list, you’re on the right track:

1. Look over this website

Become familiar with this site as this is where you will find all the information related to the high school side of this program.

2. Choose a college

Pick where you want to do Running Start
👉 (Cascadia College, Bellevue College, or LW Tech)

3. Apply to the college

  • Go to the college’s Running Start page
  • Submit an application
  • Watch your email for next steps

4. Request your Enrollment Verification Form (EVF)

  • This is the main thing your high school is involved in.
  • Use JHS EVF Request Form (located on the right).
  • Use the information on the right side of this site for request time periods and other required knowledge.
  • Your completed EVF will sent to your LWSD email account.

5. Complete placement (Math + English)

This tells the college what level classes you can start in

  • Could be test scores, transcripts, or a placement test

👉 The college will tell you what to do

6. Submit your EVF to the college

  • They help you pick classes
  • They explain how registration works

7. Register for classes (through the college)

Not sure which college classes count for your graduation requirements?  Use the equvaliency form provided on this site.

👉 This is done through the college system, not your high school

Is Running Start a Good Fit?

Probably a good fit if you:

  • Want more independence
  • Can manage your own schedule
  • Are comfortable asking for help at a college

Might not be a great fit if you:

  • Need daily structure/reminders
  • Prefer teacher-led support
  • Feel unsure navigating new systems
