JHS Statement

Please note that communication will be dependent on staff capacity as many other things fall under her responsibility.

The Running Start program allows 11th and 12th grade high school students to take college-level courses at community and technical colleges.

JHS believe that the Running Start program is for students that are academically focused, independent, organized, and mature.

It is expected by the colleges associated with Running Start, that students be able to maintain a 2.0 or higher each college quarter or result in ineligibility for the program.

Students may need to change some of expectations about privileges and responsibilities at school. College is an adult environment where students are expected to engage in the community in a positive, mature and independent manner.

**JHS also strongly advises against starting the program in any other quarter than Fall.**

Parents: We have been asked to remind you that FERPA laws are followed at the college level. College faculty are NOT allowed to communicate with anyone but the student about the students academic progress. Please do not contact them for any reason.

Update: Starting 9/3/24 All students (new and current) are expected to use the Microsoft Form to request their EVF, located under the Current Student section.

Additionally, the expectation is that these remaining requirements are completed prior to the Spring Quarter of their Senior Year.

Interested In Running Start, but not currently enrolled as a student at Juanita?

JHS is my home high school, but I attend a different LWSD school

1.Notify your current school registrar that you would like to withdraw and transfer to Juanita to access Running Start

2. Notify registrar at Juanita, Ms. Michelle, that you would like to enroll access Running Start mruan@lwsd.org

3. Send updated Proof of Residency to Ms.Michelle.

To verify residency, parents/guardians must provide two of the items listed below (each bullet counts as one item). All addresses on the documents must match the address of your residence. You will need to present original documents.

• Government Mail (e.g. vehicle registration, Good to Go! bill, letter from Social Security, immigration, unemployment, DMV, USPS Change of Address confirmation letter, or election ballot. Correspondence from the Lake Washington School District does not qualify as Government Correspondence.

• Mortgage Statement or Homeowner’s Insurance Policy Declaration or Property Tax Statement.

• Unexpired Lease/Rental Agreement and include the contact information of the lessor/landlord.

• Utility bill dated within the last 2 months. Accepted utilities include water, sewer, gas, electricity, or garbage (the mailing and service address must be the residence address). Cable, internet and phone bills are not accepted

4. Ms. Michelle will notify you once you are officially enrolled at Juanita and connect you with the appropriate staff member.

5. Complete steps to enroll in Running Start with both the college and JHS as outlined on the JHS website.

I attend a non LWSD school, but JHS would be my home high school

1. Enroll in Juanita High School

2. Notify the registrar at Juanita, Ms. Michelle, that you have enrolled to access Running Start.

Please let her know if you plan to pursue a JHS diploma & provide proof of enrollment in your private school OR information on your withdrawal from another school

3. Ms. Michelle will notify you once you are officially enrolled at Juanita and connect you with the appropriate staff member.

4. Complete steps to enroll in Running Start with both the college and JHS as outlined on the JHS website. Families can access the Orientation Presentation via our website after 3/27.

I am a full time Homeschool student and JHS is my neighborhood school

1. Enroll in Juanita High School

2. Notify the registrar at Juanita, Ms. Michelle, that you have enrolled to access Running Start. Please let her know if you plan to pursue a JHS diploma & provide annual Intent to Home School form that has been filed with LWSD mruan@lwsd.org

3. Ms. Michelle will notify you once you are officially enrolled at Juanita and connect you with the appropriate counselor.

4. Complete steps to enroll in Running Start with both the college and JHS as outlined on the JHS website.

You can only request one future quarter EVF at a time. Despite colleges accepting Winter and Spring, you will need to request your Spring EVF during the request periods for Spring Quarter.

Please note:

Time is extremely limited at the start of the next school year to process all the EVF requests. It is preferred that you decide if you want to become a Running Start student in the Spring.
