Please note that any submission of an appendix must follow the following steps:

1. Complete the form

2. Submit it to the MAIN OFFICE

3. Check the Portfolio tab in Skyward to see if form has been uploaded (this process could take up to 3 weeks. Once it appears there your form has been approved.

4. Go onto the next step per the form that was submitted

APPROVED OUTSIDE OF DISTRICT/ONLINE PROVIDERS:

COSTS: 

Online courses can be expensive.  The family must incur all financial responsibility for the course and any required materials.

COURSE ALIGNMENT: 

Think carefully.  Out of district course curriculum does not fully align with Juanita courses.  This may create potential gaps in content.  It is the student’s responsibility to seek additional support during the next level to compensate for these gaps.

Although it may seem appealing to push ahead in math, there is significant risk involved in taking ANY math class online with frequently long-term consequences.  Given the sequential nature of these courses, missing key concepts (easily done by rushing through a school-year long class in 3 months over the summer and without a classroom teacher present) can have drastic consequences in future advanced courses possibly including:  a lower GPA, missed concepts while the rest of the class marches on, and overall reduced confidence in the subject area.  The last thing we want is for our students to needlessly rush through core math classes and end up with gaps in their learning that ultimately have a negative impact on their lifetime math literacy, advancement and confidence.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRE-APPROVAL: 

• Students seeking pre-approval for an Out of District course must submit BOTH Appendix C – Request for Out of District Credit , the Course Syllabus and the JHS Out of District Credit Form.  Please bring the completed forms to the Main Office to receive Administrator approval. Once submitted please allow 2 weeks for processing and upload of the signed documents to Skyward to indicate your paperwork has been approved and you are welcome to progress to the next steps. Please note: You will not get notification that forms have bee uploaded to Skyward, you must check under the Portfolio tab. If you are not currently active in an LWSD school please email Ms. Ruan for instructions. 
• The deadline for pre-approval is June 1, 2023 for both current and incoming JHS students. 
  • Current JHS students should discuss with their counselor prior to submitting request. 
  • Current 8^th graders should discuss with current teacher/counselor and have them indicate approval on the bottom of the JHS Out of District Credit Form. Please be aware of the deadlines listed above.

 

MAXIMUM OUT-OF-DISTRICT CREDITS: 

Students are not allowed to take more than 3.0 total credits outside of LWSD during their high school career, so please plan accordingly.

NCAA REQUIREMENTS: 

If you plan to play a sport at a Division I or II college/university, it is your responsibility to check with the NCAA to see if the Out of District course you chose is approved.

OUT-OF-DISTRICT TRANSCRIPT: 

Once the student completes the course, they must request an OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT sent directly from their Out of District provider to Juanita High School’s Counseling office.
